In the Summer of 2022…
The title is a combination of the Slovak term for the tree’s annual growth rings “letokruhy” . (Leto-Summer and kruhy-rigs). In English the term “summering” simply means spending a Summer. The painting was created during the warmest months of 2022. It is a tale of a flow, connection, growth and the inevitable passing of time. The colours I utilized in this painting speak of the experience of basking in August’s heat just before the changing of seasons into autumn at summer’s end.
Summerings was created utilizing fluorescent paints to give it an extraordinary magical effect when illuminated by ultraviolet light (black light). The vibrational lines throughout were painted using a brush – not a marker. Brona Wingell
